The electronic file (e-file) replaces paper-based administrative processes with digital document management systems. In Germany, the Federal E-Government Act mandates its introduction for federal authorities. It encompasses all documents, notices, and memos related to an administrative process, enabling location-independent work, rapid access, and complete traceability of decisions. Audit security, long-term archiving according to the TR-ESOR standard, and access rights management are key requirements. The e-file forms the foundation for seamless administrative processes and is a prerequisite for the full digitization of public services under the OZG.
