The government cloud, also known as the Deutsche Verwaltungscloud (DVS), is a cloud infrastructure specifically designed for the requirements of public institutions. It provides scalable computing capacity, storage, and platform services while complying with strict data protection requirements, particularly GDPR and BSI baseline protection standards. Unlike commercial hyperscalers, the government cloud falls under German or European jurisdiction, ensuring digital sovereignty. The DVS strategy envisions a federal multi-cloud architecture in which federal and state authorities define common standards. The goal is to replace fragmented on-premises infrastructures and promote interoperability between authorities.
